A new tavern-style pizzeria and Italian eatery called THE SPOT is set to open in late spring on Central Street in Evanston, taking the place of Ten Mile House.
The restaurant, at 1700 Central St., described by owners Otte Ade and Fred Gale as a “true neighborhood hangout,” THE SPOT will serve Chicago-style tavern pizza through a partnership with Danny’s Pizza, a south side staple.
THE SPOT will also serve Italian comfort food crafted by Executive Chef Matt Overpack of Hopleaf, Le Tour and Comida.
Gale, the longtime owner-operator of Ten Mile House, said the new restaurant will build on Ten Mile House’s “foundation with an all-new décor while introducing a fresh, energetic food and bar program that both our local community and visitors will embrace.”
Ade, an Evanston native, is returning home after 20 years in New York City to open the restaurant alongside Gale.
“For me, this is about coming home and creating something that feels familiar, approachable, and exciting all at once,” Ade said in a news release. “THE SPOT is meant to be a place where neighbors gather whether it’s for pizza and a beer, a bowl of pasta, a healthy salad, or late-night food at the bar. It’s casual, welcoming, and rooted in Evanston.”
The owners hope the new pizza spot will be a “go-to destination for fans and visitors” on game day at the new Ryan Field and is taking the name of the old Evanston pizzeria that operated on Foster Street but closed in the early 1980s.
The owners said the restaurant will undergo a full renovation in the coming weeks and plans to open in the late Spring.
