Ummmm this is my first time ever eating a fresh blue crab I usually buy them precooked an frozen…first off I’m shocked by how clean it is it makes me think the ones I’m used to eating are not cleaned properly but as far as the taste is not too tasty lol it taste very fishy any suggestions on how i should cook them to make them more tasty? 9 left I caught quite a few

This is why I never get the love for blue crab here. Hasn’t really been my thing when I’ve had it live caught on the coast.

  2. How did you go about cooking it? Granted my experience is only with Dungeness (no blues on the west coast) I typically just chop em in half and gut em then either steam or boil em, never noticed any sort of fishy taste.

Where’s the old bay or J.O? Crab is looking plain

Damn get some seasoning on that bad boy

Are the ones you caught still alive?

If so before cooking it rip the top off and clean out the guts and rip out the gills. Fry them in a bunch of seasoning. Not deep fried

Much different flavor profile than what you’ve got here.

I’m a foodie and blue claw crabs are my favorite but it’s a lot of work.

OLD BAY COAT then steam in as garlic onion water maybe beer corn too. Little butter to dip. My hack

  8. You’re boiling? I prefer steamed for blues. Also does it look a little under done to anyone else? Maybe YouTube a Maryland old bay crab. Pretty sure you could steam and then shake in a brown paper bag with old bay.

If not plain with butter and lemon after a short steam is my jam. Shouldnt taste ā€œfishyā€ with or without the old bay especially when caught live.
