Parisian brasserie

In the Marais district, a stone’s throw from the Hôtel de Ville, Benoit occupies a special place in the Parisian gastronomic landscape. Opened in 1912, this restaurant is now one of the last true Parisian bistros to have retained its original spirit, while remaining part of the French haute cuisine scene.

A Maison Ducasse bistro dating back over 100 years

The history of the establishment began in the early 20th century when Benoît Matray opened his restaurant on Rue Saint-Martin. The address quickly became known for its generous, traditional cuisine, in the purest tradition of Parisian bistros. Over the decades, Benoit became a must-visit restaurant in central Paris, renowned for its classic dishes and warm atmosphere.

In 2005, the restaurant joined the group of multi-starred chef Alain Ducasse, who decided to preserve the soul of the place while bringing a new gastronomic dimension to it. A few years later, the establishment was awarded a Michelin star, which it will retain until 2025, confirming its place among the capital’s great restaurants.

Once inside the restaurant, red banquettes, antique mirrors, wood paneling, and retro lighting create a dining room that seems almost frozen in time. Every detail recalls the golden age of Parisian bistros, with a blend of conviviality and elegance that gives the establishment its charm.

The menu pays homage to the great classics of French cuisine. It features iconic starters such as pâté en croûte, onion soup au gratin, and escargots en coquille. For the main course, sole meunière, shoulder of lamb, and sweetbreads are among the exceptional dishes on offer, as are profiteroles, crêpes Suzette, and millefeuille for dessert. The recipes are faithful to tradition but executed with the precision and high standards characteristic of Ducasse establishments.

Today, Benoit remains a unique address in the capital. Both a historic bistro and a gourmet restaurant, this spot offers an experience that evokes both the Parisian gastronomy of yesteryear and contemporary French cuisine.
