SELMA, Calif. (KFSN) — Where’s there’s smoke, there’s often fire and juicy BBQ.
That’s what brought us to Grapewood Grill on Front Street in Selma.
“The grapewood makes a little bit of a difference,” says co-owner Jordan Aranjo. “It puts a little different flavor on it. It’s a little sweeter wood.”
Aranjo makes sure locals get their tri-tip and chicken fix.
This is a family affair.
Jordan’s dad, John, is a former McDonald’s and Quiznos franchisee.
“Well, he (Jordan) used to work with me when I owned my restaurants, but he’s always been cooking,” John said.
Jordan knew what Selma was missing when he opened in 2015.
“BBQ – I looked around, that was the only thing that wasn’t here in town,” he said.
The tri-tip sandwich is the biggest seller.
“The spice rub that I use is a very complex spice rub,” Jordan said.
“I do all the sides,” John said. “Everything from potato salad to cole slaw. He (Jordan) does the baked beans, the mac and cheese because it’s his recipe.”
“It’s the best stove-top mac and cheese you’ll ever eat,” Jordan said.
Aside from the table, Grapewood Grill is a takeout spot.
“Most of the people that come in here are locals,” Jordan said. “They’ve already known about us.”
Jordan’s thankful his parents are there to help.
“We actually get to spend time together,” he said.
John wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
“He’s (Jordan said) a hard worker,” he said. “I don’t mind helping him at all.”
As long as folks need BBQ, Jordan will keep that grapewood burning.
“Quality is what matters most when it comes to the food,” Jordan said.
