La Jolla has a fresh daytime destination worth knowing about. Playa Kitchen, the newest concept from Clique Hospitality, has opened at Torrey Pines Science Park – and it’s already one of the more inspired café additions to hit San Diego this year.

A Space That Feels as Good as the Food Tastes

Playa Kitchen blends a beach-inspired design with industrial loft touches – exposed ceilings, retractable garage doors, and a generous patio with views of Torrey Pines Golf Course. With 3,700 square feet of indoor-outdoor space, it works equally well for a morning coffee run, a working lunch, or a mid-afternoon reset.

Breakfast and Lunch Worth Writing Home About

Breakfast highlights include the Think Tank Bowl with red potato hash, egg whites, roasted mushroom, avocado, and feta, and a ham, cheese, and egg croissant with spicy aioli. The acai bowl with maple almond granola, banana, peanut butter, and mixed berries is a solid pick too.

Lunch brings salads, bowls, sandwiches, and wraps. Standouts include the tuna poke bowl with brown rice, seaweed salad, and confit garlic ponzu, beer-battered fish tacos with chipotle crema and avocado, and a roasted herb-marinated chicken salad with green goddess dressing.

Craft Coffee and Fresh Drinks Done Right

The coffee program is worth the visit on its own. Brewed coffee starts at $2.50, espresso drinks range from $2.50 to $4.50, and flavored lattes in vanilla, brown sugar, and lavender honey start at $4. Fresh juices are $6, and smoothies run $10 to $12 – try The Activator or the Locally Green blend.

See you there!

Free parking, a great menu, and ocean-view patio seating – Playa Kitchen is an easy yes for your next lunch break or morning coffee run.
