I just ordered some and am terrified of this happening. I know it’s gonna happen. Sigh indeed.

Sorry to see it my friend, let me tell you about the time I hand washed the first Zalto I ever bought, gave away the second because I can’t be trusted 💸😭

I work in a tasting room and I broke quite a few glasses my first week on the job. You need a light touch and you need to avoid any twisting motion which could cause the stem to snap in half.
Don’t give up!

But, was it a nice 18 seconds?

I never wash mine by hand – dishwasher only. The only one that has ever broken was one I broke handwashing lol

Happens if you pour a bit too fast

Ouch that sucks. We were giving a set of Riedel Sommeliers as a house warming gift we’ve literally never used them too scared lol. Also they are ridiculous glasses.

I just broke my last Gabriel Glas standart; I started with a two-pack a few years ago. The first one I broke hand washing after a few months, but the second one lasted several years until last week when I knocked it over while reaching for something on the counter. That’s what I get for not putting it away in the cabinet.
It’s not a fun feeling, but I bit the bullet and paid the $38 or so to have a new one shipped to me. I absolutely love this wine glass, and while I don’t want to be dropping $40 every other week for a new one, it’s not as if I broke a Zalto. For me, the Gabriel Glas Standart is the perfect balance between a glass that gives a superb drinking experience, and one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, so I don’t have a conniption when I inevitably break it.
As a wise stoner once told me, “it is the nature of all glass to break”. I wholeheartedly agree, so my strategy is don’t spend too much money, don’t get too attached, and enjoy it while it lasts.

Wow. I actually got 2 Spiegelau red wine glasses from a promotion here in Ottawa through Independant Grocers. Spend $20CDN in store, get a sticker/digital stamp… 20 stamps + $10 CDN redeems a pack of 2 Spiegelau Red Wine glasses. Oh they are tall. And yeah, those stems… I do not get rough with them. I never handle them by the stem only cupping my hand under the bowl. I have had both now for close to 5 months(?) now… I do not care how drunk I get, I remain gentle with those wine glasses as if it becomes my only sober thought lol. I like the feeling of sipping my (cheap) Jacob’s Creek in that Spiegelau glass and dreaming of finer wines and a better place to drink. I feel “important”😎 drinking out of those glasses. I take care of everything I own.

I’ve broken too many Spiegelaus to count. Switched to Glasvin—slightly less elegant but still feel so light and nice, and sturdy despite being hand blown.

Once a guest tried to help clean up after the party and broke 2 Spiegelau glasses in a row.
Dishwasher is honest safer than tipsy hands.

The exact same thing happened to me with mine. Set of 4 became a set of 3 before I even fully got them out of the box

Did the same thing with my 1st set of crystal glasses last week. Had it for a day and shattered 1. Still have 1 left luckily
