I want to thank r/kitchenconfidential community for helping educate me about why Huy Fong Sriracha’s quality has lessened in recent years. I was unaware of its history until I read it here. I had noticed recently that HF’s sauce was a much darker red and seem to taste off, but I just attributed it to batch variance. I had no idea they lost access to their sole source pepper provider, AKA Underwood.
I saw this green Sriracha sauce today, marked down, and wondered are they even trying? The labeling looks the same as the red. Surely they don’t mean this to be the same product, do they? Hoping to find some Underwood Sriracha sauce locally.

I have been lucky in finding the good stuff where I am. I went a few years without it until I saw that same shade of lovely sriracha red back on the shelf.
They fucked up and didn’t realize good peppers are not a commodity product AND climate change comes for us all.
There was a thread about this recently. The company claims they got more green peppers in their shipment and this changed the color of the final product without changing the quality (or something). Don’t know whether any of that is true.
Something something they used green peppers instead of red cause they ran out?

After reading how Hoy Fong completely screwed over their pepper supplier, Underwood, I will never buy this brand again.
There was a post about the [green Sriracha](https://www.reddit.com/r/KitchenConfidential/comments/1rnlk33/at_least_they_admit_it/) a few days ago. They say it is the same as the red , their supplier gave them more green peppers than normal.
This green sriracha is the best advertisement for underwood ranch.
Greeracha
Buy underwood, down with Hoy Fong!!!
>lost access to their OG supplier
that’s an interesting way to say he completely tried to fuck over Underwood by being a shady piece of shit and is now suffering for it.
Karma. Too bad Huy Fong fucked over Underwood Ranch. Shame on them.
Fuck that company! I’ve always been a Cholula person anyway.
That’s called the “Fucked around and found out” edition.
Hoy Fong can eat shit.
It’s a whole big thing. I like it because I know David Tran is likely screaming.
This has nothing to do with Underwood though.
It IS interesting that it isn’t selling. Even Emmy tried to push the orange shit.
Don’t buy Huy Fong, buy underwood. Fuck Hoy Fong and their corpo fuck business tactics.
Huy Fong is going to be a case study for MBA courses on how to have a legal monopoly and blow the whole thing up.
Everybody dumps on Huy Fong for their Sriracha, but anybody else buy Sambal Oelek for the first time in a few years and be massively disappointed?
The stuff is basically water now. Used to be so much thicker.
Crazy part is the old man who started sriracha retired and didn’t do any of this. He gave the business to his son in law to run and the idiot did this. Why it sucks when the new people take over especially if this is what happens.
The conflict between Huy Fong and Underwood happened in like 2017. Sriracha has been the way it has been for close to a decade.
There’s absolutely stacks of great sriracha out there. Never understood the attraction to this, even before their supply fuckery.
Or just make your own as it’s super easy and can then control the amount of sugar that goes in.
Where is Underwood though? I’m on my last bottle and they are M.I.A.. Everywhere is sold out. The website has no info (just a free godaddy site).
If you google “Underwood Sriracha” the only thing that comes up is this story. It could be the greatest marketing campaign in the history of sauces but where are they?
I want my sriracha. Underwood where you at dawg?
Fucked over supplier, had to find new one. Buy Underwood sriracha instead.
Just so everybody knows, Tobasco makes a Sriracha and it’s fucking incredible
I’m so glad that fucking around and finding out sometimes happens even on corporate level.
I bought the underwood one off Amazon. It’s good stuff
Years ago, my father owned a material handling company, and was contracted to produce some conveyor for Huy Fong, they needed somewhere along the lines of a million or two in custom conveyor. He did the engineering for them and Huy Fong bought one segment of nearly 50-75 for $35,000, then sent it to abroad to be cloned and produced cheaper. Always has been a shady company.
I’ve heard about green siracha, but thought it was just a different product. that’s crazy if they’re trying to pass that off as the real thing.
I just order Underwood sriracha online. It’s not the same as old sriracha, but it’s better than huy.
Buy Underwood!
Cheapened out on the chili suppliers from what I heard.
Dude really torpedoed his own business
Buy Underwoods brand. The people that originally produced the peppers. Hong Fuey brand screwed them over.
Huy Fong ought to give the fuck up at this point. There’s no way these supply changes issues that they’ve caused for themselves aren’t costing a ton of money.
After the shenanigans they pulled with Underwood, I can imagine that no one wants to work with them on the farm side of things any more.
Looks like diarrhea, reap what you sow fuckers.
They are saying their suppliers sent more green peppers than red, and its the same product. Quality of product has gone down since the Underwood split, and the Underwood product is better if you can find it.
they fucked over their longtime supplier, who you should now just buy from instead.

I wouldnt buy it out of principle but my brother in law had some and … tbh… the green one is better than the OG imo…
That said there are like a dozen other brands of “sriracha” that all taste light years better… sooo mixed bag ? lol

Saw them at Costco not to long ago. Worth getting.
