Handel’s Ice Cream is set to open a new store in Thornton, offering 48 flavors and “free ice cream for a year” to the first 50 guests.

THORNTON, Colo. — A growing ice cream chain will open a new location in Colorado this week.

Handel’s Ice Cream announced it is opening a shop on Thursday at 16689 Washington St., near Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 7, in the Larkridge Shopping Center.

The grand opening for the 1,500-square-foot ice cream shop is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday. The first 50 guests in line will receive “free ice cream for year.” The company said the Thornton scoop shop will feature a rotating selection of 48 ice cream flavors.

Founded in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1945, Handel’s Ice Cream currently has over 160 locations across 18 states. The company’s first Colorado location opened last year at Southlands in Aurora.

Handel’s Ice Cream said the Thornton location is family owned and operated, led by Melissa and Todd Dunderdale.

“When I first tried Handel’s, I knew it was the best ice cream on the planet,” said Todd Dunderdale. “This isn’t just a business venture for us; it’s an investment in the community where we live, work, and raise our families. We chose this area because it truly is home for us, spanning from Erie to Thornton.”
