A new restaurant is serving Italian classics with modern flare – and at affordable prices – in downtown Robbinsdale.
Risata Cucina opens Monday, joining Birdtown’s stretch of bars and restaurants along West Broadway Avenue, including Travail Kitchen and Amusements, Marna’s Eatery and Lounge, and Wicked Wort Brewing Co.
Industry veterans Brendan Denne and Bryan Gooding claimed the century-old building last occupied by Nonna Rosa’s for their first restaurant after many years of helping others launch concepts in the Twin Cities, including the trio behind Travail and Daniel del Prado.

Risata’s menu features a diverse array of pasta dishes, all handmade with Italian flour, with prices around $20. Options include fusilli with beef cheek ragù, carrot agnolotti in a brown butter sauce, and fettuccine scampi with smoked bay scallop.
There are also plenty of appetizers, sides and entrees, like chicken parmesan, swordfish piccata, and a 9-ounce ribeye steak, the most expensive thing on the menu at $35.
On the bar side, Risata offers glasses of wine for $9-$13, beer and cider for no more than $8, and cocktails run $12-$14, with Negroni and Aperol spritz on tap.
Plus, the restaurant has a list of almost 50 different amaros and a few limoncellos, on the back of an abbreviated dessert menu, featuring cannoli, tiramisu, affogato, and ice cream.
