Leigh Street is set to welcome a new classic French patisserie ‘Petite’, preparing to bring delicate pastries and a small-batch philosophy to one of Adelaide’s most loved laneways.
Taking over the former Leigh Street Bakehouse space, ‘Petite on Leigh Street’ will focus on classic French patisserie, with croissants, éclairs and laminated pastries at the heart of the menu. The concept leans into the beauty of traditional techniques while allowing space for modern flavour twists and seasonal creativity.
Owner Chowdhury Baizid saw a gap in the Adelaide market for a French patisserie one that also delivers a modern twist. While French pastry classics like a croissant and baguette will form the backbone of the menu, diners can expect creative touches along the way. Think éclairs finished with vibrant glazes and ingredients like freeze-dried raspberries or native quandong, and croissants filled with indulgent flavours like truffle cream.

The pastries are being developed with the help of pastry consultant John Ralley, the former owner of the highly acclaimed Textbook Patisserie in Sydney. John is joining forces with Chowdhury, bringing his decades of pastry knowledge and expertise to the project.
While pastries will be the star of the show, Petite will also cater to the lunchtime crowd with a small, carefully curated sandwich offering served on house-made bread. Chowdhury said Petite will have a rotating seasonal sandwiches with vegetarian and meat options. Office catering is also set to be on offer.

The name Petite reflects the philosophy behind the venue, small, thoughtful and crafted with care.
“It means small, cute and quality,” he said.
Behind the scenes, work is currently underway to transform the Leigh Street space, with branding, product development and team building all in motion ahead of opening.
If all goes to plan, Petite is expected to open its doors in around six weeks, adding another delicious stop to Adelaide’s ever-growing pastry scene. And when it arrives, the aim is simple, providing Adelaide with great French pastries.
