I planted a Carolina Reaper plant a while ago and I didn’t expect it to blow up like it did. It grew really bushy and wide, taking up a lot of my garden area. I just stuffed it in a tomato cage and it is looking really congested in there. Did I do this right and will it correct itself as it continues to grow, or should I try to thin it out in the center a bit? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You want airflow, so do some selective pruning.

I stake and cage mine but personally I wouldn’t bother doing anything with your plant unless you want to stake it now in addition to the cage. Some people will say to prune it but as you can see in the picture they will be just fine the way they are. Those two pictures were taken 65 days apart and you can barely make out the red and yellow cages that are visible in the first one.
