I just caged up my Carolina Reaper plant yesterday, but before that I let it grow wild into a big bush since I transplanted it into my garden. It is producing a good amount of peppers, but they are all tiny like this. What am I doing wrong? I fertilize the garden with Vigoro Organic tomato & vegetable plant food, water frequently and it has plenty of space. How could I get these to grow nice and big?

Those don’t look like reapers. Mine were a lot more wrinkley and with pronounced stingers.

Aside from the variety question, if your plant sets more fruit than the soil can support, the pods are smaller. The first couple pods on my biggest scotch bonnet last year were huge, then it flowered like crazy and gave me like 50 dime-sized pods.

This looks more like a scotch bonnet peppers. Still delicious.

Guys, one of my reaper plants has done the same with a couple of proper sized, clearly reapers…

    It’s a thing.

Not enough of something needed for them to thrive. Not enough sun, not enough nutrients, not enough warmth…

They are stunted. Sometimes it happens just because they are producing too soon and the plant isn’t large enough to support full sized pods. They almost always produce better later in the season. I usually pinch off the flowers when I bring them outside for the first time to allow vegetative growth first.

Bonnie plants suck-try another source for seeds, preferably from a grower. Try Baker Creek

Those look like habaneros or scotch bonnets. In terms of their size, are they the first pods you see getting off the plants? Those can often be small. If not, do they have enough space in their container?

They look well formed and healthy – there’s plenty of them. If they taste good, what’s the problem.

I have identical peppers from a nursery also called carolina reaper

I would reach out to puckerbutt pepper company. It was most likely a seed mix up. Smokin Ed may be able to tell you exactly what these are.

Do you know what a reaper looks like?

Definitely aren’t reapers. They look like some variety of small habanero.
