Has anyone had any issues with the milk burning on to the bottom of the aeroccino milk frother?
This is my second one after the first got so rusted. It’s about a year old. I wash it immediately after every use with a regular dish sponge and soap and dry it.
I’ve noticed there is brown burnt milk at the bottom again (same thing happened to our last one before the metal flaked and rusted off) I don’t want to scrub it or damage the metal.
What should I be doing differently to make it not burn/rust?
Photos below after using this morning (before cleaning) thanks!

It’s dishwasher safe so I just throw it in the dishwasher honestly and that works perfectly. Until I do that, I put warm water in the frother so that nothing sticks to the base
So I always immediately rinse mine after pouring out the milk and wipe it down with a microfiber. It sometimes sucks cos I want to taste my coffee asap. 😂 What you can also do is immediately rinse it off with water and wipe it down after you enjoy your coffee.
Edit: spelling.
Yes. I’ve gone through 3 different frothers thinking I could find one that doesn’t burn (Aeroccino 3, an Instant Pot one and a glass one from Amazon). The 4th one I bought doesn’t have the heating mechanism attached so I can submerge it and do far so good.
ETA this is the one I currently have.

I’m not sure I’d recommend it because it is a little smelly when it’s hot. I’m not sure why. I wanted to get the Breville one but it’s $200 and I didn’t want to spend that much, however it may be the next one I purchase.

Yeah, that’s actually why I got rid of mine and went to the Creatista line to get the actual steam wand. Eventually it just started flaking and was a pain to clean all the time.
TBH I don’t really think there’s much you can do to stop the burning, that’s just an unfortunate thing that happens when you steam milk. I can’t remember if you can lower the temp on the hot setting or not, maybe that might be your best option? But I think you’re just gonna have that.
Mine was doing this. Once I make my coffee I take 3 seconds to rinse, and I will either spray once with dawn power wash and let it sit, or I will fill with water to the first line and add 1 drop dish soap and turn it on. Let it sit until I’m ready to wipe it out and rinse.
Just use a sponge. How did you scratch off the metal in the last one?
all I do is rinse it right after and wipe and it is good as new. I noticed this previously when I tried to put egg nog in it one time haha. Do you use regular milk?
Yes, I’ve gotten two of those and they both scald and burn milk bad. I asked an Nespresso employee about it and they stated it’s a known issue but Nespresso doesn’t do anything.
I ended up purchasing an off brand one from Amazon and it works way better.
Mine does this with cows milk, havent had issues with almond. I immediately rinse mine with soap and water after use, and I use a little silicone scrubby to get the bits out. My plastic brush scrubby seemed too harsh and scratched the surface, the silicone is gentle.
Mine has only ever done that when it didn’t get cleaned well enough the last time it was used
Add soap and water immediately and run another frothing cycle while you have your drink. Then just rinse when finished (wipe with a paper towel if necessary). If it’s sticking when you do that, the coating is failing and there’s nothing really to be done to restore it.
ETA: This tends to happen when you put sugar in it. I would also try adding anything but plain milk after it’s frothed if possible. But I totally get that sometimes you just need hot cocoa!
I’ve heard that once it burns in a spot, it will always burn there.
My 3 has this problem. I rinse it after each use, spritz a little dawn power spray and either let it soak or use a bottle brush/sponge to get the burnt spot off.
I’ve had this happen with cows milk and oat milk. I don’t think it’s avoidable unfortunately.
I use a silicone scrubber for the bottom to prevent scratches, but are you by chance using low fat milk or non-dairy? Whole milk and cream never burn for me but other milks do.
I have this same issue, in the same spot. Honestly I let mine soak immediately after using and wash by the end of the day, which usually does the trick. I sometimes have to use my finger or cloth to get that tricky spot as I use a scrub daddy wand and it doesn’t quite fit between the knob and the side.
Pour distilled white vinegar and let it sit for a while or run on the cold froth setting then rinse out. I do that once a month and it helps with this build up.
Yup. It’s a design flaw. A little hot water and a scourer does the trick.
This looks beyond use and unsafe. You’ve scratched off the non stick coating…I would throw it away and get a new one.
No scratch sponge and press really hard when cleaning (mine still looks like new after 2 years)
This is why I ditched the aeroccino. If you’re not diligent and wash it after each and every use this will happen. Not worth it in my opinion
I’ve had mine for years and never had this problem. I rinse or wash it gently after every time. One thing I find helps it stay even cleaner is if I give it a little rinse before I put the milk in. Just the little bit of water droplets seem to keep the milk from sticking (I never have burning though with regular whole milk)
Apparently using cold water to clean helps.
OP has damaged the coating no coming back from that, to avoid burning and damaging the coating rinse after every heat if milk, when you are done fill with water to the top of the whisk and heat the water and leave to soak until next use then heat that water, clean with something non abrasive. The key is to keep it very clean, don’t use soaps or abrasive cleaners they aren’t necessary.
Add water to the fill line with a drop of soap and use it like you would normally to clean it
I rinse and wipe with a soft cloth of a paper towel
I rinse mine with water, leave a little in and let it spin again with just the water.
Every alternative milk burns for me. I clean it immediately after.
I put the frothed milk in the cup first, and then when the coffee is pouring into the cup, I quickly rinse the aeroccino with hot water, and I leave it with hot water inside until I’m ready to clean it/use it again
I have the same issues and a Scrub Daddy works amazingly (no scratches, minimal effort).
Mine does this all the time. Wipe it with a sponge. If it doesn’t come up, soak it in soapy water and it’ll dislodge
Just use a sponge and some soap. All of them do this.
Mine was doing the same thing after about a year. It would always burn in one spot. I would rinse it immediately after using. At first, the burned spot was easy to clean. But eventually, the burned area got larger and thicker (built up over time) and became impossible to clean. I don’t know if the nonstick finish wore off or what. I never used abrasive cleaners. Just a dish sponge.
Finally, I ended up tossing my Aeroccino and replaced it with a highly rated (and much cheaper) knock-off from Amazon. Been working great for over a year now with no burning whatsoever.
I will never buy another Aeroccino.
Edited to add: I always Fairlife fat-free milk. That could have a lot to do with it. But like I said, the knock-off frother doesn’t burn at all, so….
I’ve also had this same issue, depending what type of milk I use. It took me years to finally realize I can just stop the aeroccino early. I don’t time it or anything. I just turn it off once I feel like it’s whirred enough. No problems with burnt milk now!
I’ve never had this happen. I rinse right after use, soak for a bit with water and dish soap if I’m not washing right away (which is most of the time), and wash with a soft paper towel because it’s not abrasive at all. Works really well for me
The drop of dish soap immediately after use with COLD water is what worked for me. That has happened to my quite old aeroccino so we bought some cheap keurig one that did it on its very first use. The cold water turns it into a slick globule (best way I can describe) that in that solidified form comes out when I rinse it a while later.
If yours is doing that from brand new, I’d take it back. That’s not what you pay for from nespresso.
that’s not rust, that’s burnt milk.
use the soft part of the sponge instead of the harsher part as you may scratch the ceramic coating.
also don’t froth milk twice, burnt milk will stain the aeroccino, so wash after use.
The non-stick finish is starting to go and so it’ll start sticking more and more, requiring more scrubbing, and thus continuing the vicious cycle of death. I hated every thing about the aeroccinos. I had an Instant Pot foamer before I got into the Nespresso branded ones and it was far superior.
All I can do, is echo what the majority of users here have put.
You must clean your machine after every single use, and never go above the Full line or top however it is marked when heating milk.
I learnt this after my first machine I have had my second bond nearly 3 years now and it is in perfect working condition
Typically I rinse it as soon as im done using it. And let it soak about once a week and clean it. I just use a water bottle brush and it usually scrubs it off with some elbow grease
There is a hydrophobic coating on Aeroccino, I never scrub it with anything I just rinse it with tap water immediately after use and dry it with microfiber cloth, almost 3 years it still looks good as new.
This very same thing happened to me! After using it for less than 10 months it started doing this, we would wash it, remove all the burnt milk, but eventually it got completely burnt and didn’t work anymore.
Nespresso replaced it, and not even 2 weeks later the same thing happened, I got in touch again and they ended up replacing it with an Aeroccino 4 for free, no issues with that one.
