As the title says. I was vegan for 5 years. The reason I stopped bc I just love tacos so much. It is my passion. I just so happened to be in LA on my anniversary. I visited 5 tacos spots in one day. I ate 16 tacos from 9am-11pm. It is my mission to find the best taco spots. I rate my tacos based on meat, shell, and salsa. I expected more out of LA’s tacos. Despite this I did enjoy the tacos. Should I have gone to vendors on the side instead of well known locations? Do you have any recommendations? These are just my opinions.
– Slide 1: Tacos La 26 (previously Ave 26 tacos) There steak and pastor were flavorful, the chicken was eh, and the caramelized onions and potato were flavorless. The salsas could have been better but the pickled onions were great. 4/10
– Slide 2: Taco truck in the fashion district (no name on the truck but her name was Susan) it was fun to watch her make the shell and press it out. Her pastor was great and her salsa verde had an amazing kick. The avocado she added to it was a nice touch. 6/10
– Slide 3: La Salsa tacos de canasta
By far the best I had out there. Such a simple taco that packed a ton of flavor. Salas were simple but effective. The spices were great I went back to get 3 more. 8/10
– Slide 4-5: Angels Tijuana Tacos
Pastor was extremely flavorful but salty. The steak was 10/10, there chicken needs some work. I absolutely loved the queso as you can see I started eating it before I took a picture. 4/10
– Slide 6: Leo’s taco truck with champurrado 2/10
Did not enjoy these. The steak was eh the pastor was ok, the shells were hard and stiff. Salsas could have been better but the pickled onions and habanero were good. I did enjoy the champurrado’s flavor, just not the consistency.
