With 668 starred restaurants in 2026, France remains the world leader in gastronomy. But Japan, another country renowned for the extreme refinement of its cuisine, is not far behind, with approximately 550 establishments having received one to three of this famous distinction awarded for 100 years by the renowned Michelin Guide. It is no coincidence, in fact, that several chefs at French-starred restaurants hail from the Japanese archipelago!

 

On March 16, the chefs of French restaurants were certainly holding their breath during the ceremony announcing the new 2026 star recipients. The event did not take place on French soil, but once again in Monaco (though included in the France Red Guide…) at the Grimaldi Forum, in the presence of Prince Albert…

 

62 new starred restaurants, 21 demoted.

 

While on March 10, the demotions of 21 French restaurants had been announced, the entry of 62 restaurants into the inner sanctum was revealed on March 16.
