PRESCOTT, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) — Cast-iron cookware can last for generations, and in some cases, become heirlooms.
Now the public has a chance to step back in time and cook like their great-grandparents at a special cast-iron cooking class on Saturday, April 18, held at the Prairie D’Ane Battlefield in Nevada County, Arkansas.
Civil War artifacts to be showcased at archeology meeting in Arkansas
The class is being put on by the Nevada County Depot Museum and will be led by seasoned presenter Sheila Ballard.
According to the Depot Museum, the workshop will teach participants how to cook over an open flame using traditional cast-iron Dutch ovens.

Visitors will get to cook a full meal, including dessert, using historical recipes and techniques reflective of the region’s culinary heritage.
The class gets underway at 11:00 a.m. and costs $25 per person. Registration is required.
