[I ate] Today’s lunch in my military unit somewhere in Ukraine: soup with meat and vegetables (potatoes, paprika, carrots), chicken stew with potatoes, Olivier and cabbage salads

Is the raw onion and garlic on the side meant to be added into the stew if you want, question?
Never seen that before 🙂

What did Olivier do that he ended up in the stew?

I’m surprised to learn that is chicken. Looks pretty much like homemade Hungarian beef goulash. Also just looks yummy as fuck in general.

The year was 1968. We were on recon in a steaming Mekong delta. An overheated private removed his flack jacket, revealing a T-shirt with an ironed-on sporting the MAD slogan “Up with Mini-skirts!”. Well, we all had a good laugh, even though I didn’t quite understand it. But our momentary lapse of concentration allowed “Charlie” to get the drop on us. I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew made of fish, vegetables, prawns, coconut milk, and four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just can’t get the spices right!

I am so dismayed by what is happening to Ukraine, but these posts make me feel warm and a little bit less anxious knowing there are small moments of joy in your days. Stay strong.
That looks so good, I got the flu and I crave soup

This is not mess hall food. This is not mess hall plating. You’re full of shit, OP. Unless you proudly serve psyops from your home in germany or something

Ay qué rico eso para un día frío, a mi gusto le podría salsa de ají 😊

Please post more of what you are eating out there! I watch Ukraine War documentaries all the time and videos on the frontline and it always show UA soldiers eating some of the yummiest looking food and I never know what exactly it is. Слава Україні!

The bowls are super pretty

East-eurpeon cabbage is SO great. Our “sauerkraut” is gross and I always thought weird thoughts when seeing recipes with cabbage because of it. But it is chunky and salt and just way better and totally different. I would really recommend people following your recipes to go out of their way to buy the east-european cabbage. The pickles and cherry tomatoes too while they are at is; also better preserved.
