ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A homemade and international flavor comes to the Med City.
Tuesday marked the grand opening of SETO bakery, a new Mediterranean-style bakery offering freshly baked bread, cookies, pies and cakes. SETO, meaning grandma in Arabic, was inspired by owner Dina Abo Sheasha’s own grandmother. The bakery is located at 538 6th Ave. NW.
“She was the part of the whole family, warm, welcoming for everyone,” Abo Sheasha told KTTC. Abo Sheasha’s mother and uncle are the engines putting all of the family recipes together for customers.
SETO combines traditional Mediterranean foods including baklava and Egyptian fino bread with American cuisine such as apple pie and chocolate chip cookies.
“We’re all about fresh ingredients,” Abo Sheasha said, adding all bakery items are made from scratch each morning. “They [customers] come in with the smell of freshly baked items and really appreciate it. This is why we opened this to bring happiness and to bring our culture and our traditional recipes to Rochester.”
SETO had an online shop during COVID, generating support and following in the community. Abo Sheasha remarked on the diversity of the customer base supporting the bakery.
“We’re trying to, as a tribute to her [our grandmother] to create here in the space, welcoming people, creating happiness like she created for us,” Abo Sheasha said.
