Chateau Cos d’Estournel needs non introduction, the acclaimed 2nd growth producer has yielded excellent results for years, the 2003 edition is not exception, arguably one of their best this century.
Served at 15°C, decanted for sediment only. Classically Bordeaux on the nose, what tannins remain are silky smooth. Plenty of ripe fruit and cassis. Not sure how much more it can open up but a true delight to the palate. This is not a wine I will soon forget.
Paired with Standing Prime Rib Roast.

It’s absolutely delicious.
I’ve always loved this property. I don’t care what the the WBs say
I have quite a few 2019 of these. I have a lot of 2019 of lots of BDX, but I always wonder which one I can safely open and enjoy without it being too early. Seems like the default answer to everything. Here is wait 30 years at a minimum but man it’s hard to sit on stuff like that.
One of the best wines I ever had, which was about 15 years ago, was a bottle of 1985 Cos.
I was gifted this a few years back. Wondered when to open. Now I know. Cheers!
‘03 was a searing hot year.
Arrived in Pauillac having travelled from the Pyrenees (August). The temperature gauge read 39°C.
Stepped outside the car & the humidity was crushing!
How anyone could work in those conditions is a wonder to me.
The wines have turned out pretty well though!
