Italian restaurants serve up delicious, mouth-watering comfort food from creamy pastas to pizzas piled high with toppings.
In an effort to track down some of the best of the best, Business Insider created a list of the “most iconic” Italian restaurant in each state, factoring in customer reviews, local history, longevity, cultural significance, and standout dishes that keep customers returning to the restaurant.
Gaetano’s in Denver took the top spot as Colorado’s most iconic restaurant. According to Business Insider, the restaurant has been a cornerstone of Denver’s historic Northside since 1947. It was even used as a mobster headquarters for the infamous Smaldone crime family at one point.
With a 4.4-star rating on Google reviews, Gaetano’s serves classic Italian dishes such as spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parmesan, and rich red sauces. The lobster ravioli and chicken marsala are popular dishes, too.
