Who has the Kansas City area’s best french fries? Vote now

Voters on The Star’s french fry polls have made their voices heard, making some tough choices along the way. They’ve cut down the list, and now it’s time to pick a winner.

Our search for the area’s best started with more than 500 submissions, representing nearly 60 different local businesses. Round 1 saw 343 voters narrow the selections down to 16, while Round 2 had 501 voters pick their favorite salty side dish.

We’ve entered the Fry-nal Four. Only one can claim bragging rights as the best french fry in the Kansas City area.

The four finalists are Aixois, Arthur Bryant’s BBQ, Joe’s KC BBQ and Rosedale Bar-B-Q. The final round features an even split of spuds from restaurants on the Kansas and Missouri sides of Kansas City.

Joe’s is also attempting to defend its crown as the best french fry in town. The Star ran a french fry tournament in 2017, which saw Joe’s come out on top.

In their initial submissions, fans of the french fries had plenty to say about their favorites:

“They don’t have chemicals sprayed on them, and they’re crisp and tasty,” one fan proclaimed about Aixois. The reader also gave credit to the French restaurant for making their own french fries.“Great proportion of lard to potato. Very satisfying, though maybe not recommend by cardiologists,” a local raved about Arthur Bryant’s.Joe’s fries are “always cooked to perfection, but the star of the show is the seasoning on the fries, it all comes together to make a perfect fry,” a reader said.A fan of Rosedale told us that it’s a plus that their fries are crinkle cut and that “they double fry them for perfect crispiness,”
