This does have Sage as the main ingredient in Poultry Seasonings, but McCormick is a MUST! My mama’s chicken and dressing is hands-down the best I’ve ever tasted! 🍗 This is a true Southern staple, and today I’m showing you exactly how we make it at Collard Valley Cooks. It’s moist, flavorful, and tastes just like home.

Cornbread Base:

6 tbsp Salted Butter (melted)
2 cups Buttermilk
1/4 cup Cooking Oil
1 Egg
3 cups Self-Rising Cornmeal Mix
Bake at 350°F in a pan greased with Crisco.
Dressing Ingredients:

5 ½ cups Chicken Broth
1 cup Chopped Onion & Celery (chopped small)
3 Raw Eggs
3 Boiled Eggs (chopped)
2 cups Milk
½ tsp Salt & ½ tsp Pepper
¾ tsp McCormick Poultry Seasoning
1 tbsp Chicken Bouillon
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
White Bread Cubes
Cooked Chicken (chopped)
Quick Steps:

Mix your cornbread ingredients and bake at 350°F until golden.
Crumble your hot cornbread into a large bowl.
Add your broth, veggies, eggs, milk, seasonings, and soup.
Fold in your bread cubes and chopped chicken.
Pour into a well-greased pan and bake at 350°F for about 2 hours until perfect.

  1. Oh, that was my mother's old pan! I wish I could find another one like that, but I haven't seen them in years. Thank you for another great recipe, Tammy!

  2. It looks a lot like my momma's dressing. She's been gone more than 30 years. I'm going to try and make it this weekend, a tribute to your momma and mine.❤

  3. Looks like mine except I add two homemade drop biscuits and a little less bread. So delicious. Your momma could cook. Love ya ❤❤

  4. a lot like my mom's. no hard boiled eggs. She did put one in the giblet gravy. I think she used co chicken soup later on.

  5. I used to make my homemade cornbread but I am disabled now so I use jiffy cornbread mix…I cook my celery and onions together a little bit I use chicken broth and cream of mushroom soup in mine no milk I use sage and a few other seasonings and that's it we like the sweetness from the jiffy because I would make sweet cornbread all the time even for my dressing…I have to make 3-4 pans of dressing because they all wanted their own personal pan❤❤❤
