Opened the BGE and found this. I didn't cook on it much this winter, and now it's moldy, hadn't seen that one before. Should I just burn it off, or are there other things I need to do?

Thankfully fire kills mold/bacteria and sanitizes better than just about anything else on earth lol

Edit for clarity….Yes, just burn it off.

put it on the curb, share your address, go buy a new one

I would buy a new gasket and do a clean burn

We don’t need no water let the MFer burn.

Use fire to solve your problems. Works in 85% of life situations.

Mine typically looks like this in the spring after a winter of not using it.
I burn a load of charcoal through it, vents wide open, before using it for food. Fire purges everything.

Burn it off but don’t do what I did and let it rip to 1000°. Warped the hinge.

  8. When ever I see mine like that — I know we are not grilling enough!

    🤘🔥Fire It Up🔥🤘

I can tell that you rested something hot on your gasket 😅

Hard and hot burn. I do it every spring, gives the egg a reset.

    Burn. It. Off.

    Fire destroys everything.

  12. This is pretty much how I determine when to put the clock an hour forward every year.

Burning off the mold is a rite of spring for me every year. Do a clean hot burn and it’s as good as new

Heat is your tool. Load that sucker up and get it really hot. It wont take too long to burn that grate clean.

Biblical fire time, I love a good burn off!!

  16. Wide open on the bottom and nothing on the top. It’ll burn it all away. Happens every time it sits for a while and there is moisture on the inside that can’t vent out. If you have a cover make sure you open the bottom and top vents before you put it back on.

Just happened to me two or three weeks back. It didn’t happen last year though. I did a clean Burn at 550 for about 45 minutes and it’s better. My seal is burnt to a crisp new Rutland is coming tomorrow from Amazon.

It didn’t clean the dome or base as much as I thought it would, but my conveggtor looked better for sure

Get it up to 700 degrees l think the temperature is lower but I just get it blazing hot before that first cook after the winter.

Also I heard removing the charcoal at the end of the season helps.

  19. Throw a ton of fuel in, and let the thing burn HOT. I’m talking like 600-700 HOT. Just let it cook away everything. When done, you will have a white interior to your Egg again.

Edit: I have done this multiple times. #1 reason mildew/mold developed is because your vents were not closed all the way or your lid seal has gone bad.

Just burn it off. Mold dies at 160 degrees. Run it at 350 or so for 20 minutes.

Open the top and bottom vents wide open and light it up. It will be gone fast.

  22. That’s nothing. A good burn will take care of everything.

There’s a couple times I had entire civilizations evolving.
