That’s not a crack, it’s an expansion joint. They all have that gap in the firebox from the factory.

Fireboxes crack all the time and most of us just keep using it and its fine. It can be replaced under warranty but note that his warranty will not transfer to you. A replacement large firebox is $189 and it will crack eventually. Pay close attention to the body and lid, if those are cracked then don’t buy it. His wording is funny, large eggs are in no way rare so they guy might be a little full of himself and hard to negotiate with. A new Large egg with no acessories is about $1200, offer $500 and it would be a good deal.
