Sydney is set to turn très chic this winter as the Bastille Festival returns from July 16 – 19, promising four days of French food, wine, art and culture — all completely free and bigger than ever before.

Now in its 13th year, the city’s beloved celebration of joie de vivre will expand its footprint across Circular Quay and The Rocks, transforming the harbour precinct into a vibrant playground of French flavours, music and style.

Festival founder and director Vincent Hernandez says the 2026 edition will be the most ambitious yet. “Every year, our aim is to share a slice of France right in the heart of Sydney,” he says. “This edition promises to be larger, more daring and more immersive — a true ‘Tour de France’ of flavours, culture and experiences.”

A Feast for the Senses

Food lovers can look forward to a culinary journey through France without leaving Sydney. More than 130 exhibitors will serve up over 80 dishes, from raclette and escargots to crêpes, macarons and modern French fusion creations. Exclusive chef collaborations and regional specialties will showcase the diversity and creativity of French cuisine.

“Food is such a defining part of French culture, and it’s equally central to Bastille Festival,” Hernandez says. “Our goal is to make every dish feel like a journey — whether it’s a traditional specialty or something completely new inspired by French cuisine.”

A Toast to French Wine and Winter Warmers

Wine lovers will be spoiled for choice with the Taste France x Vin de France experience — a lively, modern wine space celebrating freedom, quality and creativity. Visitors can enjoy tastings, masterclasses and sensory experiences that bring French grape varietals to life.

The festival’s drinks program will also feature mulled wine, spiced cider, craft beers and French-inspired cocktails designed to warm up the winter nights. With more than 18 bars scattered across the precinct, every corner will offer a new way to sip, savour and celebrate.

“Wine at Bastille Festival is never just about tasting — it’s about storytelling,” Hernandez explains. “Every glass reflects a place, its heritage and its people.”

Vive la Culture!

Beyond the food and wine, Bastille Festival 2026 will celebrate French art, music and culture on a grander scale. A new collaboration with the City of Sydney’s busking program will see live performances spread across the quays, creating a connected musical journey through the city.

Adding to the charm, a French-inspired flea market at Gateway Plaza will feature vintage treasures, artisanal goods and community-driven stalls, blending creativity with a touch of Parisian flair.

From open-air cinema and cabaret to roving performers and live art, the festival promises to capture the essence of France — right in the heart of Sydney.
