Set within the 13th-century Palazzo Branca Doria, the new restaurant marks a full-circle moment for the brand, which was founded in 2003 just down the road.

Following success in his native Italy with Macellaio RC and other restaurant ventures, Costa brought the concept – which means ‘butcher’ – to London in 2012.

Specialising in beef from the Fassona breed of cattle, native to Piedmont, the brand currently operates three restaurants in the capital: a flagship in Soho, a site in Exmouth Market and its original location in Kensington.

At the new Genoa restaurant, guests will dine beneath Bernardo Strozzi’s Renaissance fresco The Triumph of David, surrounded by walls that once inspired a tercet in Dante’s Divine Comedy, referencing the people of Genoa and the Branca Doria family.

Leading the culinary vision is executive chef Edoardo Ferrera, a former Michelin-starred chef in Milan.

Ferrera will oversee kitchen operations in Genoa as well as across Macellaio RC’s London restaurants and future global openings.

The Genoa menu will evolve with the seasons, showcasing premium Italian produce alongside an exclusive selection of beef sourced from England’s Lake District Farmers.

Staying true to the brand’s philosophy, the restaurant will focus on authentic, high-quality ingredients presented ‘in a way that remains accessible to all’.
