Legendary soccer pro and Olympian gold medalist Mia Hamm is partnering with a national nonprofit to bolster food allergy awareness in Newport. On Sunday, May 3, Hamm will join fellow Hall of Famers Tisha Venturini and Kristine Lilly to host a soccer clinic at St. George’s School to cap a weeklong series of events promoting food allergy awareness, food-safety training and access to life-saving epinephrine.
Red Sneakers for Oakley (RSFO) recently launched its Epi Everywhere: Newport Initiative, a multi‑day effort focused on expanding food‑allergy safety, increasing community preparedness, and placing emergency epinephrine in public spaces across Newport. The initiative runs April 30 through May 3 and brings together restaurants, public venues, local businesses, families, and world‑class athletes to make Newport a national model for allergy‑safe communities.
About 20 slots remain open for Sunday’s soccer clinic. Tickets are available for purchase at https://soccer-clinic.raiselysite.com/
Epi Everywhere is RSFO’s national program dedicated to preventing food‑allergy tragedies by increasing education, awareness, and access to lifesaving epinephrine. Through this initiative, RSFO trains communities to recognize anaphylaxis, respond quickly and ensure epinephrine is available where it is needed most.
Throughout the week, RSFO will host a series of trainings, community events, and awareness activities designed to strengthen Newport’s readiness to respond to food‑allergy emergencies.
Restaurant Training — April 30
RSFO will provide state‑approved food‑allergy training to local restaurants. Under Rhode Island law, restaurants that complete this training are legally permitted to be equipped with emergency epinephrine.
Training includes:
● Recognizing signs of anaphylaxis
● Emergency response steps
● Proper use of epinephrine
● Reducing cross‑contact in kitchens
Restaurants completing the program become eligible to receive donated epinephrine and a wall‑mounted emergency case, similar to an AED station.
International Tennis Hall of Fame Training & Donation — May 1 at 9:00 AM
RSFO will train staff and donate emergency epinephrine to the International Tennis Hall of Fame,
marking a major milestone in expanding public‑access epinephrine across Newport’s most visited venues.
Sip & Shop Fundraiser — May 1, 12–6 PM
Hosted by CK Bradley and J.McLaughlin, a portion of proceeds will support RSFO’s Epi Everywhere
expansion and allergy‑safety efforts throughout Newport.
VIP Meet & Greet with Olympians — May 2, 4–6 PM
Hosted at the Clarke Cooke House, this special event will feature Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, and Tisha Venturini. This experience is offered as a thank‑you to sponsors supporting allergy safety in Newport.
Allergy‑Friendly Soccer Clinic — May 3, 9 AM–12 PM
Held at St. George’s School, the clinic is led by world‑class athletes-Mia Hamm, Tisha Venturini and
Kristine Lilly and teaches kids confidence, inclusion, and safety.
Spots remain open, and the event is open to the community.
Sponsorships for the event are also being offered and will directly fund placement of emergency epinephrine in restaurants, schools, athletic facilities and public venues, as well as training for staff across Newport, emergency wall cases and educational materials.
