A-1 Hibachi Steak and Sushi House opened in the Northwest Plaza shopping center on Tuesday, June 23, serving Japanese-American cuisine to its first customers.
The restaurant is at the far right end of the plaza in the former location of Rite Aid, next to Edison’s Smart Fitness.
Tuesday was the restaurant’s soft opening, with a grand opening likely to take place early next week, according to manager James Chen.
Construction on Hibachi started in September 2025, and the interior features a VIP room for birthday parties and other events. Chen said he wants the restaurant to hire locally and give back to the community.
“A lot of people, they just want to make money and go away,” Chen said. “Personally, I try to stay here a long time, like maybe my whole life.”
Among other items, the menu includes sushi and sashimi, steak, shrimp, teriyaki, tempura, rolls, soups, salads, and desserts.
The restaurant expects to get a liquor license within the next several days, Chen said. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
