A restaurant on the Peninsula is raising some eyebrows for its stance on kids’ behavior.

Chez Xue in Foster City posted a message on its website warning parents to keep children seated and respectful while dining. The restaurant said it’s family-friendly but “not a playground.”

“Please ensure children REMAIN SEATED at all times and respectful of fellow guests and the dining environment,” the message reads. “Running around, shouting, making noise with utensils, etc. WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! Guests not respecting this policy may be asked to leave. We will hold parents financially liable for all damage caused by their children to restaurant property.”

The restaurant cited recent incidents that led to charges ranging from $5 for a broken teacup to more than $327 for a shattered credit card machine.

The policy has sparked mixed reaction, with some agreeing and others calling it unwelcoming.
