Hai Hospitality announced that the James Beard Foundation Award-winning concept will be opening at 374 Congress St. in the historic Fort Pont neighborhood, taking over the former space of Pink Taco’s last remaining Mexican restaurant.
“We’ve been looking to grow our presence in the Northeast and Boston’s culture, community and appreciation for diverse culinary perspectives drew our attention,” said Hai CEO Tony Montero. “Boston’s strong fundamentals make it a natural next step for Uchi.”
The new Uchi, designed to draw on a blend of New England history and Japanese heritage, will have a sushi counter and a bar like its other locations, along with a private dining room.
An official opening date has yet to be announced but it is expected to be sometime late 2027, following the Nashville and Salt Lake City grand opening slated for the first half of the year.
Once open, the Boston location will mark the 14th location across the U.S. for Uchi, which translates to “home” in Japanese and launched in a tiny Austin bungalow in 2003.
Uchi’s new East and West coast locations aren’t the only new restaurants of Hai Hospitality’s opening next year. On Tuesday, the Austin-based group announced its other Izakaya-inspired concept, Uchibā, will be opening in Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood at 3080 Buffalo Speedway in the RO development at the end of the year.
