Helping my parents clean and found these. Labels not special but not sure how many have had 2-Buck Chuck or Korbel with bottle age.
tl;dr: I’d drink the Shaw again if offered at this age and pass on the Korbel, even though it was surprisingly ok
2013 Charles Shaw White Zin:
The surprise starts on the nose with aromas of strawberry, citrus, and a hint of leather. On the palate, off dry, medium acidity, oxidation gives a honey/leather type of flavor on the finish. Honestly, not bad at all.
Could pair with Indian food pretty well.
Goes to show, off dry wines often can age and be delicious, even if they weren’t made with that in mind
Korbel Brut Rosé California Champagne (bottled ~2018):
Hopes much lower for this. Barely a pop when the cork came out. But then I smelled it, and it reminded me of a medium-sweet madeira on the nose. Raisins, nuts, toffee. On the palate, disjointed sourness and can’t handle the alcohol at all. Any fruit is bruised but the wine’s definitely drinkable, maybe more so than a fresh bottle.
