Dear vegetarian friends. First of all, I didn’t come here to criticize vegetarism. Not eating meat greatly decreases the burden on the environment and diminishes animal suffering.

However I’d like to share my worries about the poultry sector. Aren’t eggs even worse than meat?

1.
Regarding animal suffering, also in organic poultry farms a lot of injuries like keel bone fractures are seen, probably caused by demineralisation of the bones because they are bred to lay many eggs

2.
The sector contributes to global warming with all associated environmental issues, and nitrogen deposition leading to diminished biodiversity.

3.
Bird flu is here to stay. Which means necessity to clear whole farms to prevent further spreading when there’s an outbreak. But also a significant risk on a next pandemic in human according to virologists

I’d like to hear your thoughts!
