An update on the contentious Bolognese slow cooking with yes… olives! It’s looking and smelling incredible and I know people are objecting to the recipe but it is a bolognese and there are variations on the traditional recipe.

I’ll likely pan fry some gnocchi and have some of this with it with parmesan grated on top. Can’t wait!

Oh my God. The food police on this sub are ridiconklous morons.
That looks amazing, and like any “traditional ethnic cultural” dishes 1 million grandmas have 1 million “Bolognese” recipes that they modified for their house’s budget and tastes. That one person adds olives to doesn’t their Bolognese make it any less authentic than the next grandma’s two houses over. Both are delicious in their own right
No food is truly authentic anymore and anyone can cook whatever they goddamn well please and call it what it reminds them of and the “that’s not Bolognese, or jollof, or whatever bullshit gatekeeping the food police do can find creative uses with their Nana’s wooden spoon and their nether regions.

I saw the post earlier, didn’t comment, but said to the missus that was a little too much on the olives, she agreed. We are both now hanging our heads – you were right OP. This looks pretty damn tasty, hope it isn’t too rich.

Why insist on naming this a bolognese though? Just call it a tasty stew or a hearty soup and then we can avoid the pedantic comments altogether.

I personally love the idea of olives in this!

That’s not Bolognese, that’s a Ragu. What you’re thinking of is a Ragu alla Bolognese which is a Ragu in the Bolognese style. This isn’t in the Bolognese style, so can’t be Bolognese.

HOW DARE YOU i’m just kidding it looks delicious

While I certainly agree that there is no such thing as “authentic” anything, I will say that if I went to a restaurant and ordered bolognese (without any additional description of the modifications on the menu) and they served me this, I would be pissed. The names of dishes are used to communicate expectations about how they will taste. While I have no doubt this is delicious, it probably tastes very different than what most people would expect when they order bolognese or look up a recipe for it. I think that’s why you’re getting all the arguments.

I know you keep insisting that it’s a Bolognese, but that’s clearly a stew. Bolognese is basically a sauce thickened with meat.
What you have is clearly sauce with a bunch of stuff floating around inside of it.

Guys take it easy on OP, they’re British. Go take a peek at r/CasualUK and you’ll realize that the stereotypes about their “cuisine” are well deserved.
Surprised there’s not half a gallon of beans in here.

Looks good! Black olives are pretty neutral in taste IMO. I want some pasta now

The only ‘original’ recipe is the raw fruits gathered by our tree dwelling ancestors. Cuisines change over time and are adapted to fit the climates, ingredients and palates the people cooking them find themselves with. I don’t find there to be much profit in arguing about what’s authentic and what isn’t.
warghhhhhhh
I have 0 issues with calling that a Bolognese I guess but op, you’re really coming off as a twat with your self assured confidence and just posting some Karen’s random article a million times. But you’re British so I guess being annoying and stealing culture to ruin it is just hard coded into you.

10 generations of my Italian family tell me that is not a bolognese. It’s a ragu but it does look very tasty. Finding an article that calls something bolognese doesn’t make it so but enjoy 👍
