The pyrex inside has the rice in it. Does anyone else do this? Does it work?

  2. Great idea! The rice in pic either is made w brothe or people should really rinse rice before cooking it!

youll have to update us. I never would have thought to do this.

Pyrex or not, I don’t love the idea of glass in my slow cooker. I do have a rice cooker which sometimes I run at the same time as the slow cooker, with steamed veggies on top

I just don’t see this working well. When I cook rice I heat it to a boil, cover tightly, and simmer on the lowest setting for 20 minutes. I don’t see this getting to a boil or being able to cover the rice tightly. It’s an interesting idea. I would like to know if it works, but if I was a betting man, I would bet against success…

Personably I’d worry about the ink on the measuring cup slowly dissipating in my food. Or any other chemicals really since the measuring cup wasn’t meant to be heated up over a long period of time. But I’m most likely just paranoid

Why is rice going in chili? This doesn’t compute to me.

I certainly wouldn’t trust this not to explode. It’s not meant to be heated.

I love this idea! I’d for sure try it, but I make my chili in a Dutch oven.

Don’t like it sorry. Noble idea I’m sure but just feels and looks wrong. I could go on but I’ll leave it at that.

Not to detract from the victory, but if you rinse your rice in a sieve first for not that long it makes like 10x the difference to the outcome.

They coat the rice in floury junk to stop it forming lumps (or something) but it’s really not meant to be eaten.

My slowcooker and rice cooker are next door neighbors.

But rice cookers are so cheap and easy to use, why would you do this? More so for the fact you risk ruining your crockpot.

It takes, like, thirty minutes at most to cook rice on the stove…

  15. I thought a reason for rinsing rice was to remove some of the arsenic?

I would just cook the rice separately. I had a dedicated rice pot when I was growing up, nowadays we use a rice cooker. If I’m cooking rice into a dish, for a perloo or just tomato rice, I’d rinse the rice and add it into the cooking vessel.

Dude just buy a rice cooker and put it on at the same time.

  18. Idk, it takes like 15 min to cook rice, I would not do as the picture.

But hey, each to their own, kudos on creativity.

No, I have a pot and the hob for cooking rice

  20. Tetrazene

No but I will now. Almost like a sous vide inception, minus the vacuum

Are you unable to spare 15-20 mins to cook rice towards the end on the range top or in a rice cooker?

  22. plumber_craic

I would only do short grain rice in a rice cooker or the stove top, to the exact minutes needed. Basmati seems more forgiving though.

I never understood why folks ruined a good thing of chili with some white rice. I mean I like both of these things but honestly prefer them seperate.
