Ordered haemul jjigae at a Korean BBQ tonight. There was one ingredient that we could not figure out. Does anybody know what this is? Tough exterior, liquid and crunchy inside. Felt deflated.

Looks like a scallop, but they wouldn’t be crunchy inside.

They are called omandoongi. They squirt this briny iodine sea juice when you bite into it! Pretty tough to eat but it gives a lot of flavor to the soup. If a US shop is using this it’s pretty legit!

I believe it is called 미더덕 (mideodeog). It’s something of a stalked sea squirt. Many find it strange but some like it. Supposedly you chew it hard to get the juice inside.

  4. I’m pretty sure it’s sea squirt. I am not personally a fan of them because of their weird texture
