I was told that Saravanaa Bhavan was some of the best dosa in Toronto and was quite underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, it was still good, but I just didn’t find it as great as Gurulukshmi. I got the ghee paper masala dosa.

Thoughts?

Saravana Bhavan is a chain restaurant that is all over the globe. It’s alright. What you expect from a chain spot.

Guru Lakshmi blows that place out the water. You’re comparing a good small restaurant to a world wide chain.

I’ve tried SB in Mississauga, and Kerela. First time was the sauga location, wasn’t great, about 15 years ago. Kerela location about 5 years ago. Was good, but had better stuff in Kerala.

Go to Nilgris in Scarborough. Way better than Saravanaa

Minerva tiffins and Nilgiris are great places for dosas. I went to Desi Mane, their thaali was really tasty and good quality (didn’t feel queasy afterwards).

  5. There are better places for paper dosa in Toronto, including Subiksha and Udupi Palace.

Try Chola on Sheppard. Like others mentioned, Saravanabhavan is a global chain, and pretty average tasting .

Taste of Tamil Nadu on Wilson St is one of the best in the neighborhood

Used to go there. Now I’m straight Nilgiris gang

I tried dosa for the first time at a “My Roti Place/My Dosa Place” (yes it’s a chain) in Scarborough, and I wasn’t impressed either; the lentil “stew” that came with it was so diluted and watery and yet had a weird aftertaste, and the dosa had this weird fermented flavour that I did not really like (yes I realize dosa is made with fermented batter, and yes I do like other fermented things like pickles and sauces, but this was much more funky with a weird aftertaste). I did like the potato filling and the coconut chutney that came with it though, and that place does serve good butter chicken/paneer roti.

Wondering if there are other legit dosa places to try, before I write dosas off.

I remember it was ok, but a bit pricey

Mydosaplace is decent for idli and dosa in my experience.

Nothing is as good as guru lukshmi. It’s because of the Sambar.

Anyone got a reco for south of st clair?

  15. It’s just alright. Guru Lakshmi seems like the best spot to go to, although Magadhi in Brampton is quite good!
