Has anyone tried the lobster tower? It doesn’t look like it would be good but interested in getting thoughts.

I remember when the 25lb lobster mountain was below $400 and the typhoon shelter style actually had tiny fried fish which added so much flavor and depth to the dish. Good times…

I’ve had it multiple times.. and whenever family come visit they all want to eat the lobster mountain. They used to have little fried fishies all around the lobster, but they’ve since changed it to French fries. Kinda cheap to me since people are paying like $700-800 for this lobster mountain and they sprinkle French fries all over it?
Prices have gone up a lot since it’s gotten so popular, it’s overhyped now. And even though they advertise their combos with 5-7 lb lobster they somehow never seem to have that size and always up charge you for more.

It’s ok. For someone who doesn’t eat a lot of lobster or a lot of Chinese food, it’s probably amazing. I found it to be super salty and only so so for quality. Definitely over priced.

I enjoyed the producers/editors giving the restaurant owners/chefs plenty of facetime to tell us more about themselves and their restaurants.

It’s overrated to be honest. Its hit or miss with the taste and yeah the fries are a joke. Sadly I miss the typhoon shelter crabs in HK. Tons of fried garlic and chillis… so good!

I actually really enjoy it. You don’t have to get 25lb of lobster (what was shown on this episode). I had a lobster mountain meal set at their sister restaurant, Jumbo Lobster. It was approx 5lb of lobster, a few other family style dishes. Split between 5 people, we paid about $40 each which is pretty reasonable for a seafood heavy meal.
Unpopular opinion: I actually like the fries.

Pretty solid trip to showcase the city. Obviously – we all have our spots but this is a good list.

The lobster tower is for the spectacle. You can order any fried lobster from a Chinese restaurant and it’s basically the same. It’s a good place to take out-of-towners for something interesting!
