Visited Este tonight and it exceeded expectations. Had visited Suerte several times last year and was thoroughly disappointed. My post on here about Suerte drew a lot of strong reactions lol, so I’m glad to report that I really enjoyed Este.
Service was great. My dining companion who’s visiting Austin randomly commented how they looked overstaffed because there were so many people working. Our server was really helpful and attentive.
Este ceviche: so good! After being served a horrible tuna tiradito from suerte (see pic from my previous post), I was a little hesitant. But this was surprisingly really, really good. Fish was top quality and flavor combination was excellent. A must-order.
Squid al carbon: this one is next level. Such an unique and original combination of flavors that worked so well. Grilled squid over a chickpea sesame purée with hazelnuts, brown butter, herbs. Impressive! Austin needs more original dishes like this.
Dover sole milanesa: saw this on the menu and thought the breading would overpower the delicate dover sole. But it’s really hard for me to not order a milanesa dish when I see it on a menu! Unfortunately, this fish is just too delicate to be deep fried and breaded. Glad I tried it, though.
Pescado Zarandeado: Usually not a fan of black sea bass but wanted to give this a try. It tasted pretty good and was cooked well, but nothing too memorable. The small sides/garnishes were a miss for me.
Really looking forward to going back for the este ceviche, grilled squid, and to try a few others (fish tacos, camarones, and the turbot).

Looks terrible. At least on the plate. Can’t say I’m surprised.

But can you still pay the rent? Haha. Just kidding. I love Suerte and plan on checking Este out one of these days but it sure looks pricey.

Good god, that poor dover sole.

What’s the difference between Suerte and Este?

That does not look appetizing. Really, nothing shown looks good nor interesting. Here’s some burnt fish and green stuff. The more I look, the worse it gets.
