First time making kimchi..will these fermenting jar kits with a metal spring be ok? I didn’t think anything of it, until now..the following day.

I’ve never seen these Ball jars before, but according to someone on the Amazon page for the product, “The spring is stainless steel which is absolutely fine. You would never want to ferment in carbon steel, aluminum, cast iron, enameled cast iron, ceramic containing lead or lead glaze, copper, brass, pewter, tin, galvanized metal, or porcelain.”
Along with that, one of the reviewers mentioned how they used these jars specifically to make kimchi which turned out well for them, so you should be okay?

You don’t need a spring. But it’s fine.

You’re going to end up with soggier, more limp kimchi with less crunch with those springs as the pressure of the springs will crush the cells of the cabbage as it ferments and softens, but it won’t hurt the flavor. As these are ball jars, you could just switch to regular caps.
