Is there a proper ice cream parlor anywhere near Austin? Note: Amy’s is not an ice cream parlor.

I want to sit down for table service. Diner style menu but the main event is the sundae’s. Like what you see on the east coast and west coast.

RIP Swensens.

Not sure what qualifies as “proper” but I got some kick ass scoops from LuvFats yesterday.

Would a mexican ice cream store count? I went to one yesterday. They have mexican snacks (doritolocos, elotes, agua frescas,) they make their own ice cream. SO MANY paleta (ice cream bars/popsicles) flavors to choose from! I had Gansito and pina colada and it was 100000% better than Amys or any American based place.

Zeds is good. The baked bear is good

There’s an old fashioned soda fountain/counter inside Big Top Candy Shop on S Congress. I think they do floats and shakes. Probably the closest to what you’re looking for in Austin unfortunately.

I *think* there’s one in Fredericksburg.

I think Freddy’s was trying to pass itself off as the *the* place for ice cream for awhile – it was awful tho.
Edit: Culver’s I think goes for the vibe but not table service.

I guess DQ isn’t cutting it.

Check out Handels at 620 and Anderson Mill. This is what you are looking for.

Buda has a soda fountain. It’s really small, has like three tables. Their not-ice-cream menu is tiny, a couple of (tasty) soups and sandwiches, and you have to order at the counter. It’s about the closest I’ve seen to what you’re looking for. (From up north, I get it.) [website](https://www.budadrugstore.com/soda-fountain)

Amy’s. That, or HEB, but people might lick it and put it back.

I know it might not count but how about the Yard Milkshake Bar? I do know it’s pretty pricy.

If you ever come to foreign and domestic to eat. We have some of the best ice cream I’ve ever eaten. We have bay leaf, peppered strawberry, Thai basil, and carrot cardamom to name a few. All are amazing. We’re not an ice cream shop but holy shit my chef is a wizard.

Why do you not consider Amy’s an ice cream parlor? What’s the difference between an ice cream parlor and an ice cream shop?

Are there any Friendly’s around here?
You can drive up to Waco for the nearest Braum’s
Is prohibition creamery still around?
Edit: guess not https://austin.eater.com/2021/1/4/22213337/prohibition-creamery-closed-austin-alcoholic-ice-cream-shop
There’s one in Amarillo if you’re up for the eight hour drive.
Yah dude, its on 1955 Nick at Nite Boulevard
Amy’s blows. Zeds is really good, idk if you call that a parlor though
As a former Oklahoman, now I miss Braum’s.

It’s definitely worth a try!
/u/lazerdab, there’s [one](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Yd4eWY2QzmWp7RMv9?g_st=ic) in Lampasas!
I’ve worked with people who commuted in from Lampasas, so I wouldn’t consider this too far.
For a city that has warm weather 9 months of the year, there’s not great options for ice cream here.
Austin is more of a gelato town now
Handels just opened up in north austin

Sit down, service, food then main event is ice cream?
Can’t think if a single ice cream-oriented place with table service. They are all Amy’s format.
Maybe you could find a “real” restaurant that has a premium ice cream option on their dessert menu to get the experience? Not a premium place but the Cheesecake Factory has diner like diversity on their menu and this https://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/location/austin-tx/menu/ice-cream-delights
