I buy cheap bacon and cut it up small and put it in a pan to render.
The bacon is mainly for flavor and oil to cook the cabbage in.
Cut the cabbage up as small as possible and throw into a deep pan that has had bacon rendering and stir and close the lid.
I add egg on top of the food and leave with the pan on for extra protein.

Very simple easy meal you can add anything to it but as a base you cannot go wrong.
The cost is insignificant it is cabbage and bacon.

Sounds like you could use a fatty cut of pork (like belly) instead. Generally cheaper than bacon by the pound and no issues with nitrites.

I would pair this with corn, which is dirt cheap where I live when it’s in season, for more carbs to provide immediate fullness
