After seeing all the recent recommendations for Zen Mei here I decided to give them a try. I gotta admit that my experience was mixed. The service and food prep were quite slow even though the restaurant didn’t seem that busy. It took 25 minutes for my food to come out. The pan fried noodles with Chinese broccoli, fried tofu and black mushrooms (shiitake) were decent but I’ve had better. I think Boda in Lincoln Heights makes the best pan fried noodles around these parts. The bbq pork appetizer, however, was frickin delicious. The pork was juicy and full of flavor and came with a super flavorful sauce. This was one of the best plates of charsiu I’ve had in a long time.
I’ll definitely be back to try their other dishes. The fried rice and chow fun looked good and so does the steamed pork with preserved vegetables. I’ll probably try those dishes next time.

Looks good! Tofu is my favorite 🙂
Man, is this going to be the new Pijja Place? This is like the 3rd post on this place this week.
The broccoli looks like seaweed?
