Just dropping this here because I’ve seen people posting about how you only get a few sprigs of basil for the same price at places like HEB, Central Market etc.

That’s Thai Basil. Great for stir frys but makes for a weird tasting pesto Genovese. Speaking from experience

Thai Basil! Thank you so much- now I know where to go when three cup is on the menu.

As others have said, this is Thai basil and not sweet basil. Also fyi, both types of basil are really easy to grow!

Cheapest and freshest basil is the plants at trader joes. Then throw them in the ground and add water! Works great this time of year.

Off topic, but, does anyone know of anywhere selling thai basil seedlings or pots at the moment? I missed them at my usual hook up this year. For some reason it’s one of the few herbs I can’t get to root from cuttings either

Thai basil in my pho *chefs kiss*

I wish grocery stores would start selling fresh herbs by weight like they do spices.

At first glance I thought this was a photo of a more popular cash crop and I thought “Hana World is selling what?!?”

For Italian basil, trader Joe has the best price. A large container for 3 dollars.

Anybody know where to get Thai basil in South or Central Austin? All the asian stores seem to be concentrated way up north.
Thai Fresh will sell a couple stems from their inventory, but it’s relatively expensive.

Thank you so much for that!! All the asian stores are a bit out of the way for us. So to get Thai Basil from 99 ranch/hmart we have to make a special trip. And the quantity is just enough for a couple of meals.
I will definitely go to Hana Market to get that bulk thai Basil and try their food court. I have heard they have a good food court too.

Thai basil. This is why I have a forest of these plants in a corner of my yard. Love the stuff but it is expensive at the Asian grocery.

Last year I worked in a restaurant; we bought regular Basil for 2.50$/lb, Thai basil for 3$/lb. We never needed that much but that was the minimum we could buy and it was ridiculously cheap so we threw so much of it away. It’s also insanely easy to grow, and it grows fast. Can you imagine what HEB makes off of basil alone, let alone the other herbs on the shelf? Lord
