Saw Huell Howser visited this place. Got takeout during pandemic. Chili had congealed by the time I got home. Not tasty at all.

Greasiest in the valley. Rather do Barney’s.

The food is tasty but also you feel awful about yourself after eating here, physically and emotionally

About 5-6 years ago, the family that ran this Chili John’s and the one in Green Bay sold it to some restaurant group.
The family used to make one vat of each kind of chili once a day. It was fresh, it was delicious and if it was out? Tough shit, try again later.
Visited about a month after they sold and it was a MARKED drop in quality. They were batching, freezing and keeping it stocked all day long and it took a hit. Haven’t been back since. What a shame.
Oh and the original was humanity’s greatest known laxative.

Burger and fries I had were good the chili not good not sure what it was? Maybe recipe from the 1920’s no wonder my dad was madd all the time. Fix the chili and I’ll go back.

Drove past this place for three years wanting to go inside. Loved the glimpses I got of the interior. Finally one day after wrapping up some business down the street I went in. The actual old school diner area was closed and they were seating people in what was basically an office and storage space next door. Guy who waited on me was nice but my chili dog came out served in a literal pool of grease. Like half the bun submerged in amber colored oil. Chili dog was barely north of decent and the entire time I was there an 84” TV was blaring Newsmax.
2/10. Would not go back.

It’s truly awful.

Even with new owners, the chili is still a pretty good laxative. After stewing on it for a bit, I have to agree with many of the commenters. My belly hurt for some hours after eating a bowl of their beef chili over rice.

I ate there for lunch yesterday, and since my name is John and I love chili, I wanted to love it, but the pool of grease in the bottom of my bowl of chili and spaghetti made that very hard…

I drive by this place all the time and was tempted to drop in and scoop up some of Johns chili. You people are advising against it. It’s too bad. If places like these had people in the kitchen at 5am prepping stuff by scratch on the daily it would prosper. Maybe they do but i dont know. So where can i get good chili in Burbank?
