Had the opportunity to try out the tasting menu at Canoe whilst being seated at the Chef’s Rail.

The Good:

– Amazing appetizers with flawless presentation. The first course of oyster & foie gras was the perfect way to ease into the menu.

– Scallop was by far the best dish due to the unique combo of ingredients that used apple in between the layers of scallop combined with a tarragon sauce and hazelnuts for texture.

– Dessert course was the perfect finish leading up to the petit fours.

The Bad:

– Timing was between dishes was awful to say the least. Some came at 10 min intervals whilst others leading to a rushed feeling, whilst the protein dish of filet took a piss poor 45 mins to come due to kitchen falling behind. The tasting menu felt like an afterthought during this rush.

– Service had more of a corporate feel rather than a genuine one. The delay of the filet was not acknowledged nor was any update given. Not to mention, the fillet was very tough…took me 3 business days to chew through the thing (lol), and lacked enough seasoning.

Whilst it was an enjoyable meal with a killer view, would I go back again? Probably not considering how much was spent. And I feel like this is a familiar sentiments when it comes to the O&B brand of establishments.

I have no idea what this would cost but I’m just gonna take a wild guess with $1,000? With drinks, tax, tip.

I had the tasting menu last year around this time, and had a similar experience. I wanted to like, mostly because it was so expensive, but i was kind of disappointed and regretful of how much I spent for a meal a didnt really enjoy that much. I like to do one fine dining experience a year- i think there are better places in the city

So I just went one time and did a la carte, but I think the key to it not feeling corporate-y is to go at lunch. It was honestly a *delightful* experience. Everyone was having so much fun. It was a really chill vibe. There was a good mix of business lunches and tourists, but nobody was snobbish about anything, and all the servers seemed to be happy to be there. I dunno, maybe it was one off, but I was really pleasantly surprised at the lunch service! Oh and the food was really good
