For mosquito and black flies, we have placed swallow houses on tall poles and we have had up to 20 nesting pairs for the last 5 years or so. They are so happy and swoop and dip around us when we walk the old pastures

I'm trying to emanate your garden philosophy…no dig, no chemicals, encourage wildlife. But there is no way I could put out cabbage seedlings and they wouldn't be devoured by slugs.
