  1. sry to whoever is going to rage about this, but this is my favorite sushi place in town.

I love the decor, service has always been very polite and accommodating, and the nigiri selection is diverse and reasonably-ish priced.

They have a few menu items that seem a little overpriced, like some of the handrolls.

Fukumoto is about the same price, but I prefer Neighborhood Sushi.

The service was awful the one time I went. The sushi was fine I guess, but service ruined the experience to the point I wouldn’t go back.

My totally unfair/ unreasonable take, I purely don’t like it because of the name “Neighborhood” sushi. Its owned by the largest restaurant group in the city and its located in the most touristy street, and least neighborhood-y place possible. It feels like another shallow, cosplay-esk type of restaurant that I wish the city would demand more from.

That said, I’m sure the foods enjoyable/ passable enough

  4. Rockboxatx

Expensive and very mediocre sushi. A few levels down from any of the omakase in town and not even as good as uchi/uchiko or even Soto.

  5. Autumntales

While I’m here…. Anyone know of a decent sushi joint that has plenty of soy paper options?

  6. Austinfoodadventures

I think the sushi isn’t bad at all and i heard they have a great happy hour. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite in town but i don’t think you’ll be disappointed. It’s alittle pricey but it’s also on SOCO. The fish quality is higher than lucky robot but so is the price i think

Some of the worst service I’ve ever had in Austin, and that’s saying something. And if the food had been good, it would have been worth it, but the sushi is so mid and the prices are much higher than it’s worth.

  8. TidalWaveform

Not worth it. Just a hair better than average (though fresh-grated wasabi at the table is a highlight), and a bit overpriced. I’d take Soto or Junmai over it in the same area.

  9. python_boobs

My wife loves it, we go there for lunch more than dinner and the food has always been great

  10. Dee-Ville

Excellent quality fish, very well crafted nigiri. The king crab nigiri haunts my dreams. Not cheap but it’s upper tier sushi on a very expensive street.

  11. GrimCreepaz

It was good, but similarly priced to Uchi and Uchi is far superior.

They’re what I consider approachable sushi. Not crazy expensive if you don’t wanna be, but it is MML and you’re paying for the next MML restaurant when you eat at one.

That being said, we love it. Tempura Truffle Beech Mushrooms and Shrimp-stuffed basil leaves are delicious. Wife and I try the special roll, more often than not it’s a good one. And, the little fried doughnuts with black tea cream and miso caramel dipping sauce are 👨‍🍳🤌

I had one bad experience and never went back. Terrible service including serving me a chicken skewer instead of the salmon I ordered which I didn’t realize until I had a bite. That wasn’t that big of a deal to me because I eat meat, but it could be a huge mistake for someone who is a pescatarian.

The experience felt too “new Austin” for me – it looks nice but the food wasn’t worth the price, especially when the service is bad.

  14. ballness10

I like it. Great upper-mid tier sushi in town. Half the price of Uchi, twice the price of Umi and I think all three offer fresh, tasty sushi that matches their respective price points.

  15. MfuckkaJones

Half the price of uchi (+ way more approachable and less pretentious) and pretty much just as good. I like some of the nigiri specials even better actually. I’ve had really dope bartenders/servers every time I’ve been, not sure what all the other sour ass ppl are talking about!

  16. wordswithenemies

Overpriced. Couldn’t enjoy because I kept thinking about the bill

  17. Weird sushi, tons of roaches on the patio, haven’t been back.

  18. SadPeePaw69

It’s owned by MML so probably overhyped and overpriced

  19. Fit_Patient_4902

Everyone in this thread should just go to Musashino

  20. BarnabasJGutly

I used to work there, the specials are really good, the cocktails are not very good lol 😆 but the sake is. The uniforms are low key very problematic though.

  21. EloeOmoe

Food is fine. Pricey. Clubby vibe that I don’t care for.

  22. Inner-Assistance-485

That’s funny, when I went about three months ago we had one of the best servers I’ve had in Austin and as a someone who served for 5+ years in a variety of places, I generally think that most places in Austin have horrific service.

It’s expensive as shit but p good, worth going.

  23. gurantulla

*Sushi Junai Omikase has entered the chat*

  24. brownjava

It’s aight. I didn’t think the sushi was bad by any stretch, but for the price point I think you can get better stuff in Austin.

I still go sometimes because the environment is cute and SoCo is a fun neighborhood in which to go dine out.

  25. tecolotesweet

I enjoyed Neighborhood the one time I went. I thought the food was very good, the service was better than average, and the restaurant itself was cute. But like every MMLH property, it’s a bit overpriced for what you get. Not saying that I wouldn’t go back, but that is a huge factor in retaining me as a guest personally.
