Hi, long time lurker, seldom commenter and comment replies and first time poster (or OP in this case \^\_\^).

For those few that know who I am… I am not here for me at all (but I’ll plug one lil thing down below ;D)

As the subject states, I’m here to help spread the word about FattyMart’s hot, made-to-order menu, starting with the menus above (except there’s one listing missing, and I’m sick and I haven’t gotten an answer back from David yet one what it is so please bear with me). I’ve seen quite a few posts about FattyMart since it’s opened, I’ll tell you it’s been a WILD ride to watch and be part of as well (ok- shameless plug, we have our Frozen Garlic Noodles ~~there which you can check out~~ ~~HERE~~, but you have to walk in-store to buy at FattyMart) and trust that I’ve relayed anything constructive and positive to the owner, David directly.

With all that shameless plugfoolery aside, for anyone interested enough to read, I wanted to share just a little slice of the more personal side of this very, VERY daunting and incredibly different venture that David Kuo and the Little Fatty team has taken on.

Let me start with this: being an entrepreneur is incredibly trying, exhausting and especially if you care too much about the thing you do. I would gladly put David in that category of caring deeply about his community and customers.

For those that don’t know, they first started with a place called Status Kuo (a play of his last name) that didn’t really move the needle for the neighborhood. As much as we would all love our food experiences to be “just about the food” sometimes there is power in a name carrying itself through a neighborhood. So then he took something also personal from his childhood, his Chinese nickname growing up “Little Fatty” and he and his team have found their stride to serve their customers and their community. They happily do really well there, and I personally believe they deserve it (might I recommend their Wontons in Chili Oil because it’s REALLY good).

This idea for the FattyMart has been a LONG time coming. I’ve known David for many years now. We’ve worked food festivals, Coachella, supported each others establishments (just to be clear- we, Starry Kitchen, still have no inclination to open another place sorry!) He has told me of so many iterations of what this place would be over the years, and strangely enough… the hot food is literally the culimination of ALL those ideas. Pizza, banh mi, Korean food, Taiwanese food, and tacos.

edit: I removed the link to my website. I didn’t think it would PULL the pic from my website as the preview VS the menu. I really don’t want this to be about our food. Sorry about that. That’s why I don’t post much. Who knew reddit pulls pics from shopify sites?!? (I didn’t!)

Edit 2: adding the [Imgur version of the menu](https://imgur.com/gallery/59tOSMf) so that a preview of the menu hopefully shows up while ppl scroll thru (this is why I don’t post much!)

Thanks for posting! Can’t believe how extensive this menu is. I really hope they’re not stretching themselves too thin with so many different items and categories. One thing I might pass along for constructive criticism is to offer more vegetarian options or at least make it clear on the menu in some way what items can be customized easily to be made vegetarian (ideally without just removing an item and having it cost the same – e.g. breakfast item without meat isn’t ideal but vegetarian option where a veggie meat or avocado is subbed instead is ideal). Would have loved to have seen a vegetarian option for the banh mi and some breakfast items. All in all, incredible market in terms of prepared and fresh foods as well as grocery items.

My husband and I ate at Fatty Mart last Saturday. He got a slice of vegetable pizza. I got a slice of cheese pizza, a guava croissant and a cappuccino. We liked all of our food, especially the pizza which was outstanding.

I had a sample of pandan ice cream which was delicious.

    The prices were quite reasonable.

    A couple of suggestions:

It’s an Asian grocery store. The mayonnaise sold there should be Kewpie and please make sure it’s the formulation that includes MSG.

I recommend that iced coffee drinks be added to the coffee menu especially with the weather warming up.

  3. I live walking distance and checked out Fatty Mart, last week. They’ve made great use of the space and def have a decent selection of groceries. I agree with others about not stretching too thin.

Sadly, I’ve never been able to eat at Little Fatty due to having Celiac and their gluten-free options not being safe for us with this disease. I wish it wasn’t advertised as such, as I know folks in the Celiac community who are newly diagnosed that have gotten sick. I’ve heard great things otherwise though!

Wish there were more taiwanese options

  5. Thank you for posting! I live a block from FM, and can’t wait to try everything. Really have enjoyed the pizza and coffee thus far. One request – vegan ice cream options and decaf coffee!

I can see this thread has become a customer service comment and request thread too. Because I love David, his family and what they’re doing I’ll attempt to relay or get you answers… soon (like tonight maybe?)

Thanks either way. This is great discourse, and thank you so much for all this. I know the Fatty team will appreciate it all.

We are so excited to try Fatty Mart soon!

  8. Thanks for the post. Fatty Mart is a great addition to the neighborhood. Come check it out. It is on Venice Blvd, just around the corner from Little Fatty, which is on Grand View in Mar Vista.
