  1. I now have 12 lettuces thanks to you! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Birds took the rest but lesson learned. I've got the washing up bowls on the go too and thanks to you also about sieving the compost loads more are poking through. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Makes sense Ivan. Why grow something your not going to eat. Iโ€™m growing parsnips and carrots in those bags for life. In my greenhouse as I donโ€™t have room in garden. Iโ€™ve had success with carrots but first time trying parsnips . Fingers crossed ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. I liked your advice from the last video to tie up the peas and was grateful I did it when the wind got up today. Thanks

  4. Thanks for all the encouragement you give to keep us motivated to keep planting and growing. I love sitting outside in my garden watching it all grow. Just keep planting, great motto.

  5. Thanks Ivan, always a pleasure to watch, looking forward to seeing tomorrow's video. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.

  6. Ivan. Do you put any type of liner in your wooden planters? Keep up the good work, I find your channel an inspiration.

  7. I have a nightmare on my hand trying to figure out what seeds I planted, due to very naughty puppy dogs pulling all my labels out. Just planted everything out. So we will see what happens.

  8. I wonder if you would have any idea, i bought what i thought was crimson crush tomato seed off amazon but they dont look like any tomato plant i have ever seen foliage totally different very wide leaves and yellow flowers ive been growing toms for twenty five years, someone said could be grafted any idea

  9. that's what I've done this year only growing what we like eating and not tones of everything

  10. This is a very timely video for me, thank you. We have had a complete rethink of our yearly garden sowing & layout today. Our small back veg garden is now full to brim with no more space left for all the left over tomato & brassica plants l over sown this year. l want to still make use of them as l can freeze the harvests but It's taking up a lot of extra work/energy l dont have. l made mistake of over sowing & putting most of our veg containers at bottom of garden. Tomorrow we are moving all the annual veg/salad containers to patio area & front drive( no car so lots of space there) & now will have middle & top garden for our perennial veg & fruit growing . It means we will have space to grow more perennial veg & fruit at end of garden(=less work) for perennial veg like tree cabbage, ninestar broc etc. The many containers for all our annual veg/salads will now be nearer to our house. As you say it really does pay to think before hand what to sow & how much.

  11. I've already had a couple of failures and other successes. Don't let the failures get you down people! That's why I try to grow lots of different things. I know some things are going to fail, so by having lots of different things others WILL succeed. There's no way I could grow enough to not have to buy at the Supermarket, but I have shown my kids food from the garden that they have eaten, which was my goal. Thank you for all these tips and advice about all kinds of different produce!

  12. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘. There's nothing more encouraging for a new gardener than their first salad from their garden. A lot of new gardeners don't realize just how easy they are to grow with or without a greenhouse. Thank you for your positive lettuce support on your channel..

  13. Thanks to your encouraging advice Ivan I have now 2 different lettuce types after deciding to grow them in long narrow planters which my son and I made from dismantling and cutting my b and q VERVE KITCHEN GARDEN wood up and redesigning it into planters….similar ones online cost ยฃ80 and not as well made as mine (folk have kindly said)…you are a wonderful presenter and knowledgeable man i really appreciate your channel and i will be donating soon to support the work you do for us all ….๐Ÿ˜Š many thanks …Mary ๐Ÿ˜Š

  14. Exactly why waste time & money growing things you don't eat, luckily we love all veg but can't grow everything at once. I'm doing five of each, one there's only me & the hubby & two i haven't got the space, but loving it all the same ..

  15. I'm in Cumbria and the onions are already bolting but not ready to harvest as still very green and upright. Any ideas of what to do? I enjoy watching you, I get any number of bright ideas from you.

  16. Thanks Ivan, for this brilliant update. I really appreciate all your hard work and effort to educate and entertain all of us potential gardeners. Take care and all the best. Stevie

  17. Thanks Ivan. I'm in my third year with my greenhouse and I've got four raised beds and a bed for flowers as well as pots. Your advice here is absolutely spot on and I wish I'd known this when I started gardening. I'm now trying to really focus on the things that I need rather than things that looked interesting while browsing a seed catalogue. I used half a bed to grow a few Globe Artichokes which were impressive and tasted great but not much of a return on half a bed. Don't even mention the cucamelons… This is a great channel, thanks for all the hard work you put into it.

  18. Totally agree with you Ivan. Iโ€™ve got lots of Romaine lettuce coming up, some iceberg that are still very small and lots of containers of cut and come again lettuce so I donโ€™t have to pay a fortune for a bag of lettuce that goes slimey in a couple of days. Better for the environment when you think of all the plastic bags that are getting chucked away as well. Iโ€™m feeling more positive now after the slugs got my first peas, Iโ€™ve planted out more and so far so good, itโ€™s too dry for the slugs at the moment ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

  19. It's easy to get caught up in growing excessive plants, especially when you sew extra in case of low germination. I also have learnt not to try too many 'exotic' varieties of plants because quite often they are just not what I reach for when it comes to harvesting for food. They are novel and can be a bit of fun, but often not really worth my time, effort and money. I really think about what my family enjoy eating and in what quantities, and base my planting on that now.
