LA might be breakfast burrito country, but Loqui’s new breakfast tacos are legit fire. Easily better than HomeState IMHO

they’re not cheap (~$6 each) but two will fill you up. their handmade flour tortillas are always great, the fried egg perfectly fits into it so it folds with the taco to the edges – not just a bunch of scrambled eggs at the bottom of the crease. and there is a thoughtful mix of ingredients. it doesn’t taste like it was slapped together which is great.

Carne asada wasn’t chopped, but meat was tender enough to easily bite through. Chorizo was nice and salty with melted cheese.

i’m a breakfast burrito guy through and through but i really enjoyed these.

edit: sd ppl please chill out you guys have great breakfast burritos too. im just saying in LA breakfast burritos are much more popular than breakfast tacos.

  2. Sweet, I’ve been to Homestate a few times and haven’t cared for it much

  3. Dommichu

Oh damn. Was this at the OG location or Playa Vista?

I feel like homestate is a bad metric but will try this out loll

  5. CountySurfer

Yeah the undercurrent on this thread is that Homestate kind of sucks? Only been there once but was not impressed either.

  6. gudtrainer

Agreed Homestate is the best comp, but I’m still salty about them. There’s like 2 molecules of chorizo in those chorizo tacos. These Loquis look great, though!

Thing about Homestate is: it’s very good, but honestly not any better than anything I could easily make myself at home

  8. If you get the chance try Macheen, their breakfast tacos are 🔥

  9. HumanTrophy

Homestate breakfast tacos aren’t that good, but they’re pretty accurate for Austin style breakfast tacos imo. The chicken tacos and picadillo tacos are delicious though.

Loqui has one of my favorite chicken tacos, excited to try this thing out. Also if you haven’t tried, their horchata is interesting (in a good way) lol

It’s not hard to be better than HomeState…..

  12. martianlawrence

San Diego is breakfast burrito country.

  13. JahMusicMan

Loqui was pretty decent….until they stopped using charcoal to cook their meats and went all-gas.

I just came back from austin and breakfast tacos just don’t hit like a burrito does. Not even from a quantity perspective. They’re just not satisfying.

  15. Simple-Ad-4137

Los Angeles sucks compared to San Diego.

  16. belated_pig21

I have never wanted a breakfast taco in my life more than I do right now

  17. _SwordsSwordsSwords_

Loqui fucks. It doesn’t have the cachet of Sonoratown but it was my favorite ‘elevated’ taco spot. I miss it dearly now that I’ve moved away 🙁

  18. orangesocialcurrency

    Loqui does breakfast tacos now!!!!!!??????

  19. Cheap-Insurance-4891

WE NEED MORE BREAKFAST TACOS IN LA. As for the best we have, asadero Chikali has my vote.

Here on the Homestate sucks bandwagon.

If you’re near the Highland Park Homestate, skip it, walk 4 doors down, and go to **Civil Coffee** of all places, for their carnitas tacos. They might be my favorite carnitas tacos in the city. They also do a breakfast burrito version with them, but I much prefer the tacos, and if you’re doing the burrito, get the eggs fried rather than scrambled.

I liked them, but only 3 to choose from. The lack of variety saddens me, and they don’t have coffee. HS has coffee to go with their breakfast tacos.

  22. Y’all dicing HomeState and I can’t take this. I don’t care for one bit for Loqui but I freaking love HomeState.

IMO Loqui and HomeState aren’t the same thing. Loqui is supposed to be more authentic, HomeState is clearly TexMex. So yeah they have polarizing menus

Also I acknowledge that as a vegetarian, I might have some diverging views from all of you, still I can’t stand by and let you all dice my precious HomeState

    * HomeState Flour Tortilla trashes Loqui flour tortilla
    * HomeState has a better veg-friendly options with the potato tacos, the Soyrizo Guadalupe, this month special: Love Song
    * Their queso is one of the few that doesn’t make me feel like I want to throw up smelling it
    * They use pasture raised eggs, which let’s be honest isn’t really a thing in the restaurant industry bc of cost cutting and I’d rather pay a buck more so that the chicken producing my egg isn’t cramped in a tiny box

The brisket is so bad and flavorless at Homestate that I’m surprised they aren’t embarrassed to claim they’re from Texas.

The charro beans are decent, though.

I would say LA is not breakfast burrito country. You need to try them down in San Diego. LA is 100% a taco town.
